I have verified that the Raspberry Pi can be picky about the SD Cards it likes. I was able to get it to boot using berryboot.
Multi Boot – berryboot
- berryboot instructions
- detailed instructions on raspberry pi from how-to geek includes configuring raspberian.
- I got this working and I really liked the feature of having a standard FAT32 file system and you can see the files needed.
- I was impressed that the multi-boot tool would not format the card if there were other files on the card
